The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the HydroMax assist relay and HydroMax motor for electrical continuity.
Ignition ON.
• | The EBCM detects an open HydroMax assist relay contacts while the relay is energized. |
• | The EBCM detects an open HydroMax (brake booster pump fluid flow switch signal) or (brake booster pump motor signal). |
• | The service brake soon indicator illuminates. |
• | A fast rate audible chime turns ON. |
The conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present.
• | Inspect the 10A HydroMax fuse (JE3) on the EBCM brake booster pump motor signal circuit for an open. |
• | Thoroughly inspect connections or circuitry that may cause an intermittent malfunction. |

Press and release the brake pedal several times, each time the power brake booster pump relay should click.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse 4 60A is open, test or replace the power brake booster pump motor. |
⇒ | If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to ground. |
⇒ | If it does not activate, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the power brake booster pump motor. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the brake switch signal circuit and the brake booster fluid flow switch signal circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the relay. |
⇒ | If the resistance is not within the specified range, replace the relay. |
