Did you review the dome lamp description and operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Place the I/P dimmer switch in the dome lamp OFF position.
  2. Close all of the doors.

Is the dome lamp illuminated?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the door ajar switches one at a time.

Does the dome lamp remain illuminated?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Disconnect the headlamp switch.

Does the dome lamp remain illuminated?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative door ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Repair a short to ground in the dome lamp control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the inoperative door ajar switch/lock assembly. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Replacement in Doors and Rear Door Lock Replacement in Doors.

Replace the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
