Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Drum Type - Single

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 290825  Size: SH

    Important: When removing and demounting any tire and wheel assembly, deflate the tire by removing the valve stem. Perform this procedure before removing the tire assembly from the vehicle.

  1. Break the wheel nuts loose.
  2. Block the wheels.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub.
  5. Remove the wheel nuts.

  7. Remove the tire and rim assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 290825  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel. Align the relationship mark of the tire and wheel to the hub.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. For 8 hole wheels install the wheel nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 550 N·m (405 lb ft).

  5. For 10 hole wheels install the wheel nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 644 N·m (475 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 290825  Size: SH

    Important: When removing and demounting any tire and wheel assembly, deflate the tire by removing the valve core. Perform this procedure before removing the tire assembly from the vehicle.

  1. Break the wheel nuts loose.
  2. Block the wheels.
  3. Raise the vehicle until the tire clears the floor. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the wheel nuts.
  5. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub.
  6. Remove the wheel from the hub.

  1. Install the wheel. Align the relationship mark of the wheel and tire to the hub.

  2. Object Number: 203172  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   7. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure

    Important: When removing and demounting any tire and wheel assembly, deflate the tire by removing the valve core. Perform this procedure before removing the tire assembly from the vehicle.

  2. Block the front wheels.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the wheel nuts.
  5. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub.
  6. Remove the tire and rim assembly.

  1. Install the inner wheel. Align the relationship mark of the tire and wheel to the hub.
  2. Install the outer wheel. Align the relationship mark of the tire and wheel to the hub.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
