The "Service Engine Soon" light may come on, and intermittent stalling may occur, on the 1990 Chevrolet W car with 2.5L engine (VIN code R). Code 34 will be set.
The center male terminal in the connector to the MAP sensor may be deformed (see illustration). Vehicles produced after VIN L9205990 should not have this condition.
Remove the connector to the MAP sensor and inspect the center male terminal for signs of crushing. If the terminal appears normal, use a replacement female terminal to check the male terminal for proper tension. If the tension is not correct, then replace the terminal. Part Number 12051371 contains 10 male terminals and seals.
Part is currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
