General Motors of Canada has determined that certain Fairfax built 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix model vehicles may have right front or left and/or right rear suspensions struts with low tensile strength at the piston to rod weld. This may result in a fatigue fracture at the piston to rod weld causing the vehicle to experience a "pounding" noise, degradation of ride quality and/or poor wheel alignment. To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, involved vehicles will either have the right front strut cartridge replaced, or both rear struts inspected and have one or both struts replaced if specific date codes are present.
Involved are ONLY certain Fairfax built 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix model vehicles produced within the following VIN breakpoints:
"W" 1990 Fairfax Only these 3 VIN's are involved Rear Struts, 1G2WJ51T4LF321591 Left & Right 1G2WJ51T7LF321620 1G2WJ51T8LF321626

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
