owners of a few 1990 Lumina coupes/sedans equipped with rear window grid defoggers may comment that some grid lines are not functioning.
Non functioning grid lines may be caused by the CHMSL seal contacting the glass and rubbing through the grid lines.
Determine which grid lines need repair by first removing the CHMSL shade and seal assembly. Reference the stationary glass section of the Body Service Manual for complete grid line repair procedure. Part Number for repair kit has been changed to #10951643.
After repair of grid lines, position shade and seal assembly in place and note areas where seal contacts grid lines. Remove enough material from the seal to prevent seal contacting glass.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
