NOISE/VIBR. DURING RIGHT TURN MAKEOVER UNDER HEAVY ACCEL.

SUBJECT: NOISE/VIBRATION FELT THROUGH THE VEHICLE UNDERBODY DURING A RIGHT TURN MANEUVER UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION (REPLACE BRACKET)

MODELS: 1994 CHEVROLET LUMINA WITH 3.1L V6 ENGINE (RPO LH0), 4T60E TRANSMISSION (RPO M13)

CONDITION:

SOME VEHICLES, ASSEMBLED PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINTS INDICATED BELOW, MAY EXHIBIT A NOISE/VIBRATION FELT THROUGH THE VEHICLE UNDERBODY DURING A RIGHT TURN MANEUVER UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION.

VIN BREAKPOINTS

OSHAWA #1 - 2G1WL54T8R9165535 OSHAWA #2 - 2G1WL54T8R1115524

CAUSE:

UPPER REAR TRANSAXLE MOUNT FRAME SIDE BRACKET BOLT/SCREW CONTACTS TRANSAXLE CASE SIDE COVER PAN RESULTING IN A GROUND OUT CONDITION.

CORRECTION:

REPLACE EXISTING TRANSAXLE MOUNT FRAME SIDE BRACKET WITH NEW BRACKET, P/N 10262677, THAT INCORPORATES USAGE OF A STAKED BOLT AT THE REAR UPPER ATTACHMENT LOCATION. PROCEDURES INDICATED BELOW AND REFERENCED IN THE APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL SHOULD BE FOLLOWED TO INSURE PROPER INSTALLATION.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. RAISE VEHICLE AND SUITABLY SUPPORT. REFER TO SECTION 0A OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

2. REMOVE LEFT FRONT TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY. REFER TO SECTION 3E OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

3. REMOVE LEFT FRONT INNER FENDER SPLASH SHIELD.

4. LOOSEN UPPER AND REMOVE LOWER TRANSAXLE MOUNT ATTACHING NUTS.

5. USING A JACKSTAND, RAISE TRANSAXLE SO LOWER STUDS OF MOUNT ARE FLUSH WITH BRACKET'S LOWER SURFACE.

6. REMOVE BRACKET TO FRAME/CRADLE ATTACHING FASTENERS AND DISCARD BRACKET.

7. INSTALL NEW BRACKET, P/N 10262677, AND FASTENERS, TORQUING FASTENERS TO 47 N.M (35 LB.FT.).

8. LOWER TRANSAXLE INSURING MOUNT STUDS ALIGN WITH HOLES IN BRACKET. INSTALL NUTS AND TORQUE UPPER AND LOWER ATTACHMENTS TO 47 N.M (35 LB.FT.).

9. INSTALL INNER FENDER SPLASH SHIELD.

10. INSTALL LEFT FRONT TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY. REFER TO SECTION 3E OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.
