Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
    • J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter

  1. Remove the hood panel.
  2. Remove the engine mount strut.
  3. Remove the right engine mount strut bracket from the engine.
  4. Remove the electric engine cooling fan.
  5. Install the J 28467-360 .
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  7. Remove the front exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to SECTION 6F.
  8. Remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt.
  9. Drain the engine oil.

  11. Remove the oil level sensor.

  13. Remove the engine splash shield.
  14. Suitably support the drivetrain and the front suspension frame with floor stands.
  15. Remove the transaxle mount frame side nuts from the drivetrain and suspension frame. Refer to SECTION 7A.
  16. Remove the engine mount frame side nuts from the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  17. Remove the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts.
  18. Lower the drivetrain and the front suspension frame bolts.

  20. Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  21. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
  22. Remove the starter motor. Refer to SECTION 6D2.
  23. Remove the transaxle mount from the oil pan. Refer to SECTION 7A.
  24. Remove the side bolts.
  25. Remove the retaining bolts.
  26. Remove the oil pan.
  27. Remove the oil pan gasket.
  28. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket surface.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter
    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture

    Important: Apply a small amount of sealer GM P/N 1234579 or equivalent on either side of the rear main bearing cap, where the seal surface on the cap meets the cylinder block.

  1. Install the oil pan gasket.
  2. Install the oil pan.
  3. Install the retaining bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the side bolts. Use the J 39505 .
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the transaxle mount to the oil pan. Refer to SECTION 7A.
  8. Install the starter motor. Refer to SECTION 6D2.
  9. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
  10. Install the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  11. Raise the drivetrain and the front suspension frame bolts.

  13. Install the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts.
  14. Install the engine mount frame side nuts from the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  15. Install the transaxle mount frame side nuts from the drivetrain and suspension frame. Refer to SECTION 7A.
  16. Remove the floor stands from the drivetrain and the front suspension frame.
  17. Install the engine splash shield.

  19. Install the oil level sensor.
  20. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt.
  21. Install the front exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to SECTION 6F.
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Remove the J 28467-360 .
  24. Install the electric engine cooling fan.

  26. Install the engine mount strut bracket to the engine.
  27. Install the right engine mount strut to the engine.
  28. Install the hood panel.
  29. Add engine oil.
