Removal Procedure

Important: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.


    Object Number: 12708  Size: SH
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief W 3800, Fuel Pressure Relief W 3100, Fuel Pressure Relief W 3.4L.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3800, Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3100, Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3.4L.
  4. Remove the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
  6. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12708  Size: SH
  1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
  2. Install the new plastic connector retainer on the in-pipe fuel filter inlet.
  3. Slide the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
  4. Install the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3800, Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3100, Servicing Quick Connect Fittings W 3.4L.
  5. Install the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  6. Tighten
    Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning. Tighten the in -pipe fuel filter outlet nut to 30 N·m(22  lb. ft.).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  9. Install the negative battery cable.
