Removal Procedure
- Set park brake.
- Set gear selector lever to Neutral (N).
- PNP switch and transaxle range switch electrical connectors.
- Nut securing linkage cable to transaxle manual shaft.
- Linkage cable from manual shaft
- Two bolts securing PNP switch to transaxle.
- PNP switch.
Installation Procedure
Important: After the PNP switch has been installed, verify that the engine only
starts in Park and Neutral. If the engine starts in any other position, readjust
the PNP switch.
- Verify that the transaxle manual shaft is still in the Neutral position.
If it has been moved, rotate the shaft clockwise from Park through Reverse
into Neutral. Be careful not to damage the shaft flats, corners, or threads.
- PNP switch.
• | Align the flats in the PNP switch with the flats on the transaxle
manual shaft. |
• | Press the PNP switch onto the shaft and fully seat the PNP switch
against the transaxle. |
- If reinstalling the original PNP switch, adjust PNP switch (refer
to Transaxle Park Neutral Position (PNP) Switch / Transaxle Range Switch Adjustment
procedure). New replacement PNP switches are already pinned in the Neutral
position.
- Electrical connectors
- Linkage cable onto manual shaft.
- Nut securing linkage cable to manual valve.
Adjustment Procedure
- Place the transaxle shift lever in the Neutral position.
- Remove nut securing linkage cable to transaxle manual shaft.
- Remove linkage cable from manual shaft.
- Loosen the two PNP switch attaching bolts.
- Place tool J 41545 onto manual shaft so that slots on the manual
shaft engage the tool.
- Rotate the PNP switch on the manual shaft to align the adjustment
slot on the switch with the leg on the tool.
Tighten
The PNP switch attaching bolts to 28 N·m (20 lb. ft.).
- Remove tool J 41545.
- Install linkage cable to manual shaft.
- Install nut securing linkage cable to transaxle manual shaft.
