    Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

  1. In order to reassemble, stand the camshaft carrier on end.
  2. Install the camshaft
  3. • Coat the camshaft journals with engine oil, or equivalent.
    • Coat the camshaft lobes with prelube GM P/N 1052365, or equivalent.
    • Carefully rotate and install the camshaft into the camshaft carrier.

  4. Install the camshaft thrust plate.
  5. Install the camshaft thrust plate bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the thrust plate bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the camshaft carrier rear cover and gasket.
  8. Install the camshaft carrier rear cover mounting bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the mounting bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
