Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
    • J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
    • J 35953 Engine Support Foot Modification
  1. Remove the air cleaner duct.
  2. Drain the coolant.
  3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
  4. Install the J 28467-360 .
  5. Install the J 28467-90 .
  6. Install the J 36462 .
  7. Install the J 35953 .
  8. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  9. Remove the right front wheel. Remove the left front wheel. Refer to SECTION 3E.
  10. Drain the oil pan.
  11. Remove the steering gear retaining bolts. Hang the steering gear on the body. Refer to SECTION 3B.
  12. Remove the right and the left lower ball joint nuts. Separate the lower ball joints from the control arms. Refer to SECTION 3C.
  13. Remove the power steering cooler line clamps at the frame.
  14. Remove the engine mount nuts at the frame. Support the frame.
  15. Remove the frame retaining bolts. Refer to SECTION 10-3.
  16. Remove the frame. Refer to SECTION 10-3.

  18. Remove the engine oil filter.
  19. Remove the engine oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement .
  20. Remove the engine oil level sensor.
  21. Remove the starter motor.
  22. Remove the flywheel cover.

  23. Object Number: 57232  Size: SH
  24. Remove the oil pan retaining nuts and bolts.
  25. Remove the oil pan.
  26. Remove the oil pan gasket.
  27. Clean the following parts:
  28. • The oil pan flanges
    • The oil pan rail
    • The front cover
    • The rear main bearing cap
    • The threaded holes

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-50 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
    • J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
    • 3.1L Power Steering Pump, Pulley, and Bolts Removal/Installation Engine Support Foot Modification

    Object Number: 57232  Size: SH
  1. Apply sealer GM P/N 12345739 to the tabs of the gasket that insert next to the rear main bearing cap notches.
  2. Install the new gasket.
  3. Install the oil pan.
  4. Install the oil pan mounting nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil pan mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten

    1. Tighten the rear bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the remaining bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
  8. Install the flywheel cover.
  9. Install the engine oil level sensor.
  10. Install the starter motor.
  11. Install the engine oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement .

  13. Install the engine oil filter.
  14. Install the frame. Support the frame. Refer to SECTION 10-3.
  15. Install the frame retaining bolts. Remove the frame support. Refer to SECTION 10-3.
  16. Install the engine mount nuts at the frame.
  17. Install the power steering cooler line clamps at the frame.
  18. Install the ball joints on the control arms. Refer to SECTION 3C.
  19. Install the steering gear on the steering gear mounts. Refer to SECTION 3B.
  20. Install the right front wheel. Install the left front wheel. Refer to SECTION 3E.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Remove the J 28467-360 .
  23. Remove the J 28467-50 .
  24. Remove the J 36462 .
  25. Remove the J 35953 .
  26. Install the air cleaner duct.
  27. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
