Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  3. Drain the coolant.
  4. Disconnect the control cables at the throttle body of the upper intake.
  5. Remove the fuel rail cover.
  6. Remove the evaporator emission canister purge solenoid bracket bolts.
  7. Remove the evaporator emission canister purge solenoid bracket.
  8. Remove the evaporator emission canister purge solenoid.
  9. Disconnect the spark plug wires at the coils.

  11. Remove the control module mounting bolts.
  12. Remove the control module and the control module coils.

  13. Object Number: 57315  Size: SH
  14. Remove the control module mounting bracket bolts.
  15. Remove the control module mounting bracket.
  16. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the manifold.

  18. Remove the upper intake manifold bolts.
  19. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  20. Remove the upper intake manifold gasket.
  21. Clean the gasket material from the mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 57252  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper intake manifold gasket.
  2. Install the upper intake manifold.
  3. Install the upper intake manifold bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Connect the vacuum hose at the upper intake manifold.
  6. Install the control module mounting bracket.
  7. Install the control module mounting bracket bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the control module and coils.
  10. Install the control module and the coil mounting bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  12. Install the spark plug wires.
  13. Install the evaporator emission canister purge solenoid harness and brackets.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  15. Install the fuel rail cover.
  16. Connect the control cables at the throttle body of the upper intake.
  17. Refill the coolant.
  18. Install the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  19. Connect the battery negative cable.
