Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner duct.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
in General Information.
- Place the transmission shift lever in Park.
- Turn the ignition key to the Run position. Do not proceed to the
next step without the key in the Run position.
- Slip a screwdriver blade into the ignition switch inhibitor slot.
- Depress the cable latch.
- Pull the cable from the inhibitor.
- Push the cable connector lock button at the shifter base to the
up position.
- Remove the snap cable from the park lock lever pin.
- Depress the cable connector latches.
- Remove the latches from the shifter base.
- Remove the cable clips.
Installation Procedure
- Place the cable lock button in the up position.
- Place the shift lever in the Park position.
- Snap the cable connector into the shifter base.
- Place the ignition key in the Run position.
- Snap the cable into the inhibitor housing.
- Do not insert the cable without the key in the Run position.
- Turn the ignition key to the Lock position.
- Snap the cable end on the shifter park lock lever pin.
- Push the cable connector nose forward.
- Remove the slack.
- Apply no load to the connector nose.
- Snap the cable connector lock button down.
- Install the negative battery cable.
- Install the air cleaner duct.
- Inspect the functional operation in the following situations:
15.1. | With the shift lever in Park and the key in the Lock position. |
• | Inspect that the shifter lever will not move to another position. |
• | Inspect the ignition key is removable from the column. |
15.2. | With the key in the Run position and the shift lever in the Neutral
position. |
• | Inspect that the key will not be turned to the Lock position. |
- Do the following if the above conditions are not met:
16.1. | Pull the cable connector lock to the up position. |
16.3. | Apply no load to the connector nose. |
16.4. | Snap the cable connector lock button down. |
16.5. | Recheck the operation. |
- Do the following if the key cannot be removed in the Park position:
17.1. | Snap the connector lock button to the up position. |
17.2. | Move the cable connector nose to the rear until the key can be
removed from the ignition. |
- Snap the lock button down.
- Reinstall the cable into the clips in order provide correct routing.
