Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment Rear Disc

Tools Required

J 21177-A Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gauge


    Object Number: 177186  Size: SH
  1. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  3. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Turn the rotor slowly while pulling the rotor away from the hub.

  5. Loosen the adjusting nut on the parking brake cable until the lever is at the rest position.

  6. Object Number: 177200  Size: SH
  7. Set the J 21177-A so that the J 21177-A contacts the inside diameter of the rotor (1).

  8. Object Number: 177201  Size: SH
  9. Position the J 21177-A over the shoe and lining at the widest point.
  10. Turn the adjuster nut until the shoe and lining (1) just contacts the J 21177-A .
  11. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for the rotor on the opposite side.

  12. Object Number: 177186  Size: SH
  13. Tighten the parking brake cable adjusting nut and adjust the cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  14. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  15. Turn the rotor slowly while sliding the rotor onto the bearing assembly.

  16. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  17. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
