Removal Procedure
- Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Disconnect the knock sensor electrical wiring harness connector. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
- Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Disconnect the oil cooler outlet hose from the oil cooler.
- Remove the oil cooler connector.
- Remove oil cooler inlet hose clamp and oil cooler.
- Clean and inspect the engine block mating surface.
Installation Procedure
- Install oil cooler inlet hose clamp and oil cooler. Make sure that the seal is in place. Coat the seal with engine oil.
- Install the oil cooler connector.
- Connect the oil cooler outlet hose to the oil cooler.
- Install the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Connect the knock sensor electrical wiring harness connector. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
- Add engine oil as necessary. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Inspect the oil cooler for leaks.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the oil cooler connector to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
