Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 38185 Hose Clamp
Pliers
- Remove air cleaner assembly
and the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.1L.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
Important: To prevent shearing of rubber bushing(s) loosen bolt(s) on engine strut(s)
before swinging strut(s).
- Remove the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar and rotate
the struts and braces rearward. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement
in Engine Mechanical
- 3.1L.
- Remove the electric cooling fans. Refer to
Engine Cooling Fan Replacement
.
- Remove the radiator bracket bolts and the radiator brackets.
- Use the J 38185
in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator inlet hose.
- Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
- Use the J 38185
in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
- Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
- Remove the coolant level module. Refer to
Coolant Level Module Replacement
.
- Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator. Refer
to
Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
- Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the retainer at the
bottom of the radiator.
- Remove the radiator.
Installation Procedure
- Install the radiator mounts
to the openings in the lower tie bar.
- Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the retainer at the
bottom of the radiator.
- Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator. Refer
to
Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
- Install the coolant level module. Refer to
Coolant Level Module Replacement
.
- Connect the outlet hose to the radiator.
- Use the J 38185
in order to reposition and install the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
- Connect the inlet hose to the radiator.
- Use the J 38185
in order to reposition and install the hose clamp at the radiator inlet hose.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the radiator
brackets and radiator bracket bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft)
- Install the electric cooling fans. Refer to
Engine Cooling Fan Replacement
.
- Install the engine mount struts to the proper position. Refer
to
Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement
.
- Rotate the struts and braces forward. Install the engine strut
brace bolts to the upper tie bar. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement

3.1L.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Install the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet
duct. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.1L.
- Inspect for leaks.
