Notice: The catalytic converters require the use of unleaded fuel only. Using leaded fuel will damage the catalytic converters and other emission system components.

The catalytic converter is an emission-control device added to the gasoline engine exhaust system to reduce hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide pollutants from the exhaust gas. The catalyst in the converter is not serviceable.

The three-way catalytic converter is mounted in a pipe located between the right (rear) exhaust manifold and the exhaust system. The pipe has flanges at both ends and a flange gasket at the exhaust manifold to seal the exhaust system. The pipe has a tapped hole rearward of the three-way catalytic converter that a heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) threads into.
