Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left

1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
3. Remove the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
4. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to the left hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .



6. Remove the left hand exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
7. Remove the left hand exhaust manifold heat shield.



8. Remove the left hand exhaust manifold nuts.
9. Remove the left hand exhaust manifold.
10. Remove the left hand exhaust manifold gasket.
11. Clean the left hand exhaust manifold to the left hand cylinder head sealing surfaces.

1. Install the left hand exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the left hand exhaust manifold.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the left hand exhaust manifold nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the left hand exhaust manifold nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




4. Install the left hand exhaust manifold heat shield.
5. Install the left hand exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the left hand exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

6. Install the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to the left hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
7. Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
8. Install the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
9. Install the throttle body air inlet duct.
10. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right

1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
3. Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
4. Rotate the engine forward for access.
5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
6. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to the right hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
7. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring harness connector. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
9. Disconnect the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.



10. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube from the rear exhaust manifold.



11. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts.
12. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold upper heat shield.



13. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.
14. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold lower heat shield.
15. Lower the vehicle.



16. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold nuts.
17. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold.
18. Remove the right hand exhaust manifold gasket.
19. Clean the right hand exhaust manifold to the right hand cylinder head sealing surfaces.



20. If replacing the right hand exhaust manifold remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

1. If removed, install the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.



2. Install the right hand exhaust manifold gasket.
3. Install the right hand exhaust manifold.

4. Install the right hand exhaust manifold nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the right hand exhaust manifold bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

5. Raise the vehicle.



6. Install the right hand exhaust manifold lower heat shield.
7. Install the right hand exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the right hand exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




8. Install the right hand exhaust manifold upper heat shield.
9. Install the right hand exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the right hand exhaust manifold upper heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




10. Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube to the rear exhaust manifold.
11. Connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the right hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring harness connector. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
14. Install the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to the right hand exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
15. Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
16. Return the engine to the proper position.
17. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
18. Install the throttle body air inlet duct.
19. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
