Battery Cable Replacement Positive
Removal Procedure
Important: When you replace the battery cables, use replacement cables that are
the same type, gauge and length.
- Remove the LH diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls -
3.1L.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer
to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Disconnect the positive
battery cable (1) from the battery.
- Position the remote positive stud cover (2) aside.
- Remove the positive battery cable junction block lead nut (3).
- Disconnect the positive battery cable (4) from the LH underhood
accessory wiring junction block stud.
- Remove the starter solenoid
BAT terminal nut (1) and the positive battery cable (2) from the starter solenoid
BAT terminal.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the wiring harness conduit.
Installation Procedure
- Install the positive battery cable into the wiring harness conduit.
- Install the positive battery
cable (2) to the starter motor BAT terminal.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the starter
solenoid BAT terminal nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the positive battery
cable (4) and positive battery cable junction block lead nut (3) to the LH
underhood accessory wiring junction block.
Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable junction block lead nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Install the remote positive stud cover (2).
- Install the positive battery cable to the battery (1).
Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable terminal bolt to 15 N·m
(11 lb ft).
- Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls -
3.1L.
- Install the LH diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
Battery Cable Replacement Negative
Removal Procedure
- Remove the LH diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls
- 3.1L.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the negative battery
cable bolt (1) and the battery ground cable (2) from the core support.
- Remove the transaxle stud
nut (3) and the negative battery cable (4) from the transaxle stud.
- Remove the negative battery cable from the wiring harness conduit.
Installation Procedure
- Install the negative battery
cable into the wiring harness conduit.

nut (3) to the transaxle stud.
Tighten
Tighten the transaxle stud nut (3) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the negative battery
ground cable (2) and the cable bolt (1) to the core support.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery ground cable bolt to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls
- 3.1L.
- Install the LH diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
