Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle.Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 282996  Size: MH
  4. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering cooler pipe.
  5. Remove the power steering return line (4) from the power steering gear (2).
  6. Remove the clamp holding the power steering return line to the power steering gear.
  7. Remove the power steering cooler pipe retaining bolts (3) from the frame.

  8. Object Number: 282110  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering cooler pipe (1) from the frame .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 282110  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering cooler pipe to the frame (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering cooler pipe retaining bolts to the frame.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering cooler pipe retaining bolts to 9.5 N·m (86 lb in).

  5. Install the clamp to the power steering gear to hold the power steering lines to the power steering gear.
  6. Install the power steering return line (4) to the power steering gear (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering return line fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  8. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering cooler pipe.
  9. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System
  12. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding
  13. Check the power steering system for leaks. Refer to External Leakage Check .
