Problem

Action

Air in the power steering system

  1. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Loose/worn joints from the steering column to the power steering gear

  1. Inspect the joints from the steering column to the steering gear for the correct torque.
  2. Replace the joints from the column to the steering gear if necessary. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

Loose power steering gear

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications or Steering Gear Replacement .

Loose tie rod ends

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends.
  2. Replace the tie rod ends if necessary. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

Worn wheel bearings

Replace the hub and bearing. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement .

Too much play in steering

Refer to Too Much Play in Steering .
