1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
2. Observe the instrument cluster gages and indicators.

Does the rest of the instrument cluster gages and indicators operate normally?

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
2. Disconnect the theft deterrent module electrical connector.
3. Connect the fused jumper between the theft deterrent module harness connector terminal A5 and the ground.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the SECURITY indicator light?

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
2. Remove and disconnect the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console for service procedures.
3. Use a DMM to measure the resistance between the instrument cluster harness connector terminal D16 and the theft deterrent module harness connector terminal A5.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

2 ohms

Go to Step 5

Refer to Instrument Cluster System Check Instrument Cluster System Check in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console for diagnostic information. Make repairs as needed.

1. The SECURITY indicator is inoperative due to a problem with the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster System Check Instrument Cluster System Check in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Repair a poor connection or an open in CKT 728.

1. Inspect the theft deterrent module harness connector for poor terminal contact.
2. If no problem is found, replace the theft deterrent module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement .

2. Reconnect any connectors/components removed.
