The front door locks use the fork bolt
lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured
in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Lock
the doors from the inside by sliding the lock knob rearward. The door may
also be locked by using the key.
Important: Do not attempt repairs in order the correct lock discrepancies. Replace
the lock.
Removal Procedure
- Remove the trim panel. Refer to

- Remove the water deflector. Refer to

- Use side cutters to cut
off the outside handle rod-to-lock clip (4) from the lock (5).
- Unscrew the remainder of the clip from the outside handle rod.
Discard the clip.
- Remove the door handle clips (1) from the lock rod (2) and the
handle rod (3). Remove the rods from the door handle.
- Remove the lock assembly
bolts (5).
- Remove the lock assembly and rods.
- Remove the inside handle rod from the lock.
- Remove the locking rod from the lock.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors (6).
- Remove the lock (4).
Installation Procedure
- Install the inside handle
rod (4) and locking rod (3) on the lock.
Push in and rotate the rod through the clip in order to secure the rod.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the door
lock assembly bolts (5).
2.1. | Start with the top bolt. |
2.2. | Tighten in a clockwise direction. |
Tighten
Tighten the door lock assembly bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connectors (6).
- Install the lock rod and
handle rod to the door handle.
- Install the door handle clips (1) to the lock rod and the handle
rod.
- Position the outside door
handle rod in the clip in order to eliminate any free play in the outside
door handle.
- Snap the clip cover closed over the threaded outside door handle
rod.
- Install the water deflector. Refer to

- Install the trim panel. Refer to
