GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The front seats are secured to the floor pan by the bolts. The bolts are installed to the weld nuts on the floor pan anchor plates.

The manually operated two-way front adjusters allow for fore and aft movement of the seat.

A seat adjuster handle is located on the front seat. The seat adjusters unlock when the seat adjuster handle is pulled up. This position permits travel of the seat. When the seat is moved to the desired position and the seat adjuster handle is released, the seat locks into place.

The motors for power seats are energized by a toggle-type control switch that is bolted on the seat side panel. The power six-way seat adjusters are actuated by three 12V, reversible, permanent magnet motors with a built in circuit breaker.

The 3 motors respectively direct drive the front and rear vertical gear nuts and a horizontal actuator. Torque is absorbed through the rubber mounted grommets located between the motor and the support. An overload relay is provided in the circuit when excessive stall torque is applied to the motor.

    • The following front seat option is available:

Object Number: 291596 Size: SH
    • The AM6 60/40 Split with an Armrest

Full Width/Split Front Seats

All the split seats have the front seat back head restraints on the drivers and passengers seat back.

You must insert a small round tool into the head restraint guide in order to release the head restraint from the seat. You may then remove the head restraint from the seat.

The coupe front seats are equipped with inertia seat back locks. This system allows the seat to fold forward without requiring the occupant to release a locking lever for access to the rear seat area. The seat back inertia locking system locks the front seat backs in an upright position when the following conditions occur:

  1. There is a sudden stop.
  2. There is deceleration.
  3. The front of the vehicle is declined more than 20 degrees.

A manual seat back lock release lever is provided to allow the manual release of the inertia lock when the front of the vehicle is declined more than 20 degrees. The release lever is located at the lower rear outboard corner of the seat back.

The seat cushions and backs have formed foam pads in order to fit the following frames:

    • The contour of the seat back frame
    • The designed contour of the seat cushion frame.

The 60/40 front seat is split with individually controlled seat adjusters. The passenger seat is the 40 percent side and the driver seat is the 60 percent side.

The 60/40 split seat is equipped with a reclining mechanism. The recliner lever is located on the outboard side of the seat cushion. When the lever is pulled upward, the spring loaded reclining unit located on the right side of the cushion is released allowing the seat back to be pushed rearward or allowing the spring loaded reclining unit to bring the seat forward.

The 60/40 split may also have a six-way power seat adjuster for the driver side.
