Parking Brake Adjustment
- Adjust the rear brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment in Drum Brakes.
- Apply the parking brake to 10 clicks and release. Repeat this step five times.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position. Verify that the BRAKE indicator lamp is off.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Turn the nut on the equalizer while spinning both rear wheels in order to adjust the parking brake. When either rear wheel develops drag, stop the adjustment and back off the equalizer nut one full turn.
- Apply the parking brake to four clicks and check the rear wheel rotation.
- Ensure that the wheel does not move when attempting to rotate it by hand in a forward direction. The wheel should drag or not move when attempting to rotate in a rearward direction.
- Release the parking brake and check for free wheel rotation.
- Lower the vehicle.
