Some 1990 U-Vans with Electronic Level Control (RPO G67) and assembled prior to VIN breakpoints LT133024, may exhibit a "loose lumber" noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. This condition is sensitive to vehicle loading and may not be apparent when vehicle is not loaded to the equivalent of a five passenger ballast condition.
This is caused by impact of the rear shock absorber lower conical retainer with the encapsulated metal mounting surface of the upper shock absorber mount.
To correct this condition, install flat washer, P/N 10000925 between upper shock absorber mount and rear shock absorber lower conical retainer at both rear locations following applicable shop manual procedure (Figure 1).
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
Use applicable Labor Code and Time.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
