THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 93-124-3E, DATED MARCH 1993. THE TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE REAR WHEEL HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY ATTACHING BOLTS FOUND IN SECTION 3D OF THE 1990-93 LUMINA APV SERVICE MANUAL. THE BOLTS ATTACH THE REAR HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY TO THE REAR AXLE (FOUR ON EACH SIDE). ALL COPIES OF 93-124-3E SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Rear hub and wheel bearing assembly attaching bolts for all Lumina APV, vehicles should be torqued using the following guidelines:
* Vehicles manufactured from model year 1990 through 1992 require a torque specification of 63 N.m (46 lb.ft.).
* Vehicles manufactured in model year 1993 and beyond require a torque specification of 82 N.m (61 lb.ft.).
This change is a result of the required torque distinction between unpainted and painted bearing surfaces and not the type of bolt being used.
The 1990-93 Lumina APV Service Manual for Section 3D should be updated.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
