SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE NEEDLE MOVEMENT OF THE FUEL GAGE IS EXCESSIVE DURING QUICK DRIVING MANEUVERS.
AS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, SOME MOVEMENT OF THE FUEL GAGE NEEDLE IS NORMAL DURING ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, AND CORNERING, DUE TO MOVEMENT OF THE FUEL (SLOSH) IN THE FUEL TANK. EVEN THOUGH THE MOVEMENT IS NORMAL, SOME OWNERS MAY OBJECT TO THE AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT.
AN ANTI-SLOSH MODULE, P/N 25629813, CAN BE INSTALLED TO SLOW THE MOVEMENT OF THE NEEDLE. SINCE THE NEEDLE WILL MOVE SLOWER, THE OWNER MAY COMMENT THAT THE NEEDLE RESPONDS SLOWLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FUELED. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM ON PAGE 8A-81 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE TO INSTALL THE MODULE:
1. NOTE THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK.
2. REMOVE THE LH I/P SOUND INSULATOR PANEL (HUSH PANEL), THE I/P STEERING COLUMN OPENING FILLER PANEL, AND THE I/P DRIVER KNEE BOLSTER ASSEMBLY (SEE SECTION 8C). REMOVE THE LH KICKPAD AND THE DOOR SILL PLATE.
3. PULL THE CARPET BACK AND EXPOSE THE BODY HARNESS, CLOSE TO THE KICKPAD. CUT THE ELECTRICAL TAPE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE WIRES. LOCATE THE SMALL (.5 MM) PURPLE WIRE. CUT THE WIRE AND CHECK THE FUEL GAGE. WITH THE IGNITION ON, IT SHOULD SHOW PAST FULL (OPEN CIRCUIT). DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
4. INSTALL THE ANTI-SLOSH MODULE, P/N 25629813. THERE ARE FOUR WIRES FROM THE MODULE. CONNECT AS FOLLOWS (MAKE SURE ALL CONNECTIONS ARE SOLDERED AND TAPED PROPERLY):
A. SPLICE THE BROWN WIRE FROM LOCATION "D" TO AN IGNITION CIRCUIT (CIRCUIT #39, PINK WIRE).
B. SPLICE THE BLACK/WHITE WIRE FROM LOCATION "F" TO A GROUND WIRE (BLACK OR BLACK/WHITE).
C. AT THE CUT PURPLE WIRE (CIRCUIT #30), SPLICE THE WHITE/ PURPLE WIRE FROM LOCATION "H" OF THE MODULE, TO THE CLUSTER END OF THE WIRE. SPLICE THE PURPLE WIRE FROM LOCATION "B" OF THE MODULE TO THE SENDER END OF THE WIRE.
5. MOUNT THE MODULE BOX SO IT WILL NOT CAUSE RATTLES, AND SECURE IN PLACE. SECURE ANY LOOSE WIRES TO ELIMINATE ANY PINCH POINTS. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. CHECK THE FUEL GAGE FOR PROPER OPERATION.
6. REINSTALL THE PARTS REMOVED IN STEP 2.
PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.
