Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 24X CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 12696  Size: SH
  1. Remove the serpentine belts from crankshaft pulley.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  3. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly.
  4. Remove the right inner fender access cover.
  5. Remove crankshaft harmonic balancer retaining bolt.
  6. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer using special tool (J 38197).
  7. Remove the crankshaft position sensor harness clip.
  8. Remove the sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the sensor from block face.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft position sensor to block.
  2. Install the sensor to block face.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (8 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the electrical connector.
  5. Apply sealer GM-9985675 to the keyway of Balancer.
  6. Install the balancer on crankshaft.
  7. Apply thread sealer GM-1052080 or equivalent to threads of crankshaft balancer bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft bolt to 107 N·m (79 lb ft).

  9. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the lug nuts to 140 N·m (104 lb ft).

  11. Install the serpentine belts.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 7X CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe.
  5. Remove the rack and pinion heat shield.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  7. Remove the crankshaft Position sensor shield retaining nut.
  8. Remove the crankshaft Position sensor shield.
  9. Remove the crankshaft retaining stud.
  10. Remove the crankshaft position sensor from block.

Installation Procedure

Important: Before installing the crankshaft sensor, lubricate new O-ring with clean engine oil.

  1. Install the crankshaft position sensor in block.
  2. Install the crankshaft, retainer, and bolt.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 8 N·m (70 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rack and pinion heat shield.
  5. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
