WATERLEAK ALONG TOP OF SLIDING SIDE DOOR

SUBJECT: WATER LEAK ALONG TOP OF SLIDING SIDE DOOR (APPLY TWO-WAY TAPE TO TOP OF DOOR/REINSTALL WEATHERSTRIP)

MODELS: 1996 CHEVROLET LUMINA APV 1996 OLDSMOBILE SILHOUETTE 1996 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR LEAKS WATER ALONG THE TOP OF THE DOOR.

CAUSE:

THE CONTOUR OF THE BODY DOES NOT FOLLOW THE CONTOUR OF THE DOOR ALONG THE TOP.

CORRECTION:

1. REMOVE THE SEAL ALONG THE TOP OF THE DOOR.

2. INSTALL A PIECE OF TWO-WAY TAPE ALONG THE FULL LENGTH OF THE TOP OF THE DOOR. USE DOMINION SURE SEAL AUTOMOTIVE ATTACHMENT TAPE*, P/N WTS OR 3M SCOTCH MOUNT AUTOMOTIVE ATTACHMENT TAPE*, P/N 6382.

3. USING A UTILITY KNIFE OR A DRILL BIT, CUT OUT THE HOLES FOR THE WEATHERSTRIP RETAINERS.

4. REINSTALL WEATHERSTRIP, CHECK TENSION OF WEATHERSTRIP TO THE BODY. IN SOME RARE CASES, TWO LAYERS OF TAPE MAY BE NEEDED.
