Models:2007 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina SS Models (Export)

Cause

This condition may be caused by contact between the edge of the Audio/HVAC fascia and the inner sides of the center console on all sports models.

Correction

    Object Number: 2003872 Size: MF
(1)Check for clearance along these gaps
  1. Check for clearance by running a single piece of paper along the gap shown in the graphic above.

  2. Object Number: 2003873 Size: SH
(1)Check for clearance along this edge
(2)Contact may occur at these "standoffs"; however, it will not cause noise due to isolation tape that is installed. The problem area is along the edge of the fascia.
  3. The paper only needs to penetrate the gap to a depth of 5 mm (0.2 in) - any further and it may catch on "standoffs" behind the front face.
  4. If paper does catch along length of gap, remove the audio fascia by pulling firmly towards the rear of vehicle at the bottom edge of the fascia.

  5. Object Number: 2003874 Size: MF
  6. With the radio fascia removed, locate the four screws (1) at the corners of the audio unit. Unscrew these by one to two turns and reposition the audio unit to relieve the contact condition. The design gap is only 0.5 mm (0.2 in), therefore only very slight movement of the audio unit is required.
  7. Tighten the screws and reinstall the fascia to the audio unit. Check for clearance with paper and if contact occurs, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until there is a gap on both sides of the fascia.
