Subject: | 07314 -- ACTIVATION OF ADDITIONAL SECURITY FEATURES |
Models: | 2007-2009 LUMINA, CAPRICE, CR8 (EXPORT) |
The Owner handbook for 2007 and 2008 and some 2009 model year Lumina and Caprice model vehicles includes a statement at page 2.11 which states that the trunk release in the glove box will be disabled when the doors are locked, or the vehicle is traveling in excess of 13 Kph. It has been found that this statement is incorrect.
The purpose of this program is to correct the function of the trunk release to conform with the description shown in the handbook.
As an additional enhancement, an upgrade to the security system will be enabled as part of this correction. Details of this feature are described in the body of this bulletin.
The trunk release functionality is to be implemented via a Body Control Module calibration change to be enabled via TIS/ Tech 2. The alarm function will also be enabled as part of the calibration change.
Details of the revised functionality are included in a new owner handbook supplement, part number 92224818, which is to be provided to customers at the time of implementing this upgrade.
Vehicles involved are those included in the range shown in the table below. A listing of vehicles sold to each dealership is supplied separately.
Dealerships are alerted to the requirement to carry out this action on all vehicles including those which are held in storage, prior to delivery at retail.
Involved are all 2007 and 2008 model year vehicles as well as some 2009 model year built prior to the breakpoint below.

An initial quantity equal to the number of affected vehicles delivered will be supplied to each dealership.
No other parts are required
The revised calibration will provide the following additional functionality, which is reproduced in greater detail in the draft owner letter attached, and should be described to customers following reprogramming.
If the alarm system is triggered inadvertently, pressing the unlock button on the remote key will immediately stop the horn sounding and hazard lamps flashing

With the door still locked, open the door using the interior door handle. The vehicle horn should sound, and hazard warning lights should flash. Unlock doors using the remote key. Horn should cease sounding, and hazard lights should cease flashing.

March 30, 2008Dear General Motors Customer:
We have learned that your Lumina, CSV or Caprice vehicle may have been built with a condition which will enable the trunk to be opened while the vehicle doors are locked. This is contrary to the specification shown in the owner handbook, which states that the trunk release in the glove box is deactivated when doors are locked. This condition may allow unauthorized access to contents of your trunk, if entry is gained to your locked vehicle.
Your satisfaction with your Lumina, CSV or Caprice is very important to us, so we are announcing a program to make a necessary change to your vehicle, to ensure that it complies with the specification shown in the handbook. In addition we will upgrade the security system of your vehicle. These changes are summarized below, and a detailed description of the operation of the security system will be provided by your dealership.
What We Will Do: To prevent this condition from occurring, your Chevrolet dealer will make a minor change to the body computer. This service which also includes the activation of the alarm feature described below will be performed for you at no charge .
What You Should Do: To limit any possible inconvenience, we recommend that you contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for this repair.
In addition to the change to correct the operation of the trunk lock, the security system of your vehicle will be upgraded at not cost. Your dealership will provide you with a supplement for the owner handbook when this modification has been completed. This supplement provides a complete explanation of the additional features which are to be provided at no cost. In summary, the additional security features are as follows:
• | In the event of forced entry, or opening of a locked door which has been previously locked using your remote key, the vehicle horn will sound, and the hazard lights will flash. |
• | If one or more doors are not fully closed when attempting to lock using the remote key, the horn will chirp five times as a warning that doors are not fully closed. |
We sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern that this situation may cause you. We want you to know that we will do our best, throughout your ownership experience, to ensure that your vehicle provides you many miles of enjoyable driving.
