Electrical Information Reference

    â€¢  Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
    â€¢  Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
    â€¢  Battery Inspection/Test.

  1. Carry out the Diagnostic System Check, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
  2. Carry out the Battery Inspection/Test, refer to Battery Inspection/Test.
  3. Inspect the wiring for damage. Inspect all connections to the starter motor, solenoid, battery and all ground connections.
  4. Make sure the engine is not seized.
  5. Crank engine.
  6. ⇒If the starter motor makes a rumble, growl or knocking noise remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  7. Inspect for damaged, worn or chipped teeth.
  8. ⇒If the teeth are damaged replace the starter motor.
  9. Install the starter motor.
  10. Crank engine.
  11. ⇒If starter motor makes a whoop or high pitched noise remove starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  12. Inspect for damaged, worn or chipped teeth on the ring gear/flexplate
  13. ⇒If teeth are damaged replace ring gear/flexplate. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement for 3.6L engine or Engine Flywheel Replacement for 6.0L engine.
    ⇒Install the starter motor.
