Did you perform the diagnostic system check - vehicle?

Open the rear compartment lid.

Is the rear compartment lid ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF, vehicle in PARK.
  3. Open the rear compartment lid.
  4. With a scan tool observe the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal input in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal is active?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Is the rear compartment lid ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?

Go to Step 5

Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal and ground circuits.

Is the rear compartment lid ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testingand Wiring Repairs.

Repair open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testingand Wiring Repairs.

Repair open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testingand Wiring Repairs.

Replace the instrument panel cluster/message centre. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement or Radio Replacement .

Replace the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
