Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement 3.6L Engine

Removal Procedure -- Up to 12 Sep 07

  1. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  2. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  3. Remove the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  4. Place a large suitable container under the vehicle in order to collect draining fluid.

  5. Object Number: 1957021  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  7. Important: Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5) to aid in removing the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  8. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  9. Important: The power steering pump (1) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

    Important: The copper sealing washers (3) must be discarded after removal.

  10. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (3).
  11. Discard the washers.

  12. Plug the power steering pump (1).

  14. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  15. Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  16. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  17. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.

  18. Object Number: 1957031  Size: SH

    Important: The power steering gear (3) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

    Important: The copper sealing washers (1) must be discarded after removal.

  19. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (1).
  20. Discard the washers.

  21. Plug the power steering gear (3).
  22. Important: If fitting the later type steering high pressure hose and secondary hose to a pre 12th September 2007 vehicle, they must be replaced as a pair.

  23. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

Installation Procedure -- Up to 12 Sep 07

  1. Position the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  2. Object Number: 1957031  Size: SH
  3. Remove the plug from the power steering gear (3).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 58 N·m (42 lb ft).

  7. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

  10. Object Number: 1957021  Size: SH
  11. Remove the plug from the power steering pump (1).
  12. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (3).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  14. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the power steering fluid reservoir inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Remove the container from under the vehicle.

  19. Object Number: 1957027  Size: SH
  20. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

    Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

  22. Fill power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the MAX level mark on the reservoir.
  23. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
  24. Check for power steering fluid leaks.
  25. Install the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  26. Install the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  27. Install the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.

Removal Procedure -- As of 12 Sep 07

  1. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  2. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  3. Remove the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  4. Place a large suitable container under the vehicle in order to collect draining fluid.

  6. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  7. Important: Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5) to aid in removing the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  8. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  9. Important: The power steering pump (1) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

    Important: The copper sealing washers (3) must be discarded after removal.

  10. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (3).
  11. Discard the washers.

  12. Plug the power steering pump (1).

  14. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).

  22. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

Installation Procedure -- As of 12 Sep 07

  1. Position the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  2. Object Number: 1957031  Size: SH
  3. Remove the plug from the power steering gear (3).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 58 N·m (42 lb ft).

  7. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

  12. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (3).
  13. Tighten

  14. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the power steering fluid reservoir inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Remove the container from under the vehicle.

  20. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement 6.0L Engine

Removal Procedure -- Up to 12 Sep 07

  1. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  2. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  3. Remove the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement.
  4. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  5. Place a large suitable container under the vehicle in order to collect draining fluid.

  6. Object Number: 1957021  Size: SH
  7. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  8. Important: Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5) to aid in removing the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  9. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  10. Important: The power steering pump (1) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

    Important: The copper sealing washers (3) must be discarded after removal.

  11. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (3).
  12. Plug the power steering pump (1).

    Discard the washers.

  13. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).

  16. Remove the splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement.

  18. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (1).
  19. Plug the power steering gear (3).

    Discard the washers.

  20. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  1. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  2. Object Number: 1957031  Size: SH
  3. Remove the plug from the power steering gear (3).

  5. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 58 N·m (42 lb ft).

  7. Install the splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

  11. Remove the plug from the power steering pump (1).
  12. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (3).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  14. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (4).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the power steering fluid reservoir inlet pipe/hose to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Remove the container from under the vehicle.

  20. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 90 N·m (80 lb in).

    Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

  22. Fill power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the MAX level mark on the reservoir.
  23. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.

  25. Install the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.

  11. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (2) and copper sealing washers (3).
  12. Plug the power steering pump (1).

    Discard the washers.

  1. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose.

  3. Remove the plug from the power steering gear (3).

  5. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to power steering gear retaining banjo bolt (2) and NEW copper sealing washers (1).

    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the power steering fluid reservoir inlet pipe/hose to subframe retaining bolt (5).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Remove the container from under the vehicle.

  20. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 90 N·m (80 lb in).

  22. Fill power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the MAX level mark on the reservoir.
