Subject:Moan/Buzz Noise from Power Steering Pressure Pipe Contacting Chassis Rail (Increase Clearance Between Power Steering Pressure Pipe and Body)

Models:2007 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Export)

Condition

Customers may comment of a moan or buzz noise when operating the power steering.

Cause

Object Number: 2003750 Size: SH

This condition may be caused by contact between the power steering pressure pipe and the LHF chassis rail.

Correction

  1. Remove the engine cover.

  2. Object Number: 2003751 Size: SH

Important: When loosening, hold the pressure pipe to stop it from rotating with the banjo bolt. If you don't stop the pressure pipe from rotating, the fitting in the top of the pump that houses the banjo bolt may loosen as well. If this happens, the pressure pipe banjo fitting must be disconnected completely in order to gain access to the pump fitting to tighten it.

  3. Loosen the banjo bolt on the power steering pressure line.

  4. Object Number: 2003752 Size: SH
  5. Rotate the power steering pressure pipe towards the engine until clearance to the body is greater than 40 mm (1.6 in).
  6. Tighten the banjo connection to the specified torque (refer HSI) while holding the pressure pipe in order to prevent it from rotating.
  7. Install the engine cover.
