Subject: | Idle Roughness - L98 V8 Engine |
Models: | 2009 and Prior Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Middle East Export) |
with 6.0L V8 Engine (RPO L98) |
Some customers may report a light and intermittent misfire or roughness when the vehicle is idling. The condition may be slightly more evident with the transmission in "Park" or "Neutral".
A discernible roughness or idle instability is inherent in the current 6.0L engine and arises from the basic architecture of the engine.
All engines are developed to maximize performance and fuel economy, and this is always balanced against various elements which include idle smoothness.
The outstanding performance and economy of the L98 engine used in the Caprice and Lumina has resulted in a discernible but minimal idle disturbance which may be noticed by discerning customers.
Minimal idle disturbance is characteristic of the engine for reasons outlined above, and provided the disturbance is confirmed to be representative of that experienced in similar vehicles, no action should be taken in an effort to improve the idle smoothness.
Customers should be assured that the idle disturbance is normal and does not indicate a problem with their vehicle.
Only in the event of abnormal idle shake should action be taken to diagnose the cause.
