Removal Procedure

AIR Solenoid Valve

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Disconnect the throttle body vacuum line from the electrical solenoid.

  4. Object Number: 256263 Size: SH
  5. Loosen and lower both AIR pump exhaust hose pinch clamps down onto the metal portion of the AIR pipe (2).

  6. Object Number: 256318 Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 mounting bolts (2) that attach the AIR Solenoid Valve assembly to the torque strut bracket.
  8. Loosen the flexible exhaust pipe nut (5) from the exhaust manifold.
  9. Remove the AIR Solenoid Valve assembly from the exhaust manifold and from the AIR pipe.

Installation Procedure

AIR Solenoid Valve

    Object Number: 256318 Size: SH
  1. Install the AIR Solenoid Valve assembly onto the AIR pipe.
  2. Hand tighten the flexible exhaust pipe nut (5) to the exhaust manifold.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the AIR Solenoid Valve assembly to the torque strut bracket using the 2 mounting bolts (2).
  5. Tighten
Tighten the mounting bolts to 9N·m (80 lb in).

    Tighten
Tighten the flexible exhaust pipe nut (5) at the exhaust manifold to 60N·m (44 ft lb).

    Object Number: 256263 Size: SH
  6. Connect the AIR pump exhaust pipe (2) to the AIR Solenoid Valve (1).
  7. Move both AIR pump exhaust hose (2) pinch clamps back into position.
  8. Connect the throttle body vacuum line to the electrical solenoid.
  9. Connect the electrical connector.

Removal Procedure

AIR Pump Exhaust Pipe

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Remove the retaining screws from the front portion of the left front wheel well/splash shield.
  3. Lower the splash shield far enough to gain access to the AIR pump assembly.

  4. Object Number: 256253 Size: SH
  5. Loosen and lower the AIR exhaust pipe (2) hose pinch clamp.
  6. Remove the AIR pump exhaust pipe mounting bolt from the transaxle.
  7. Disconnect the AIR exhaust pipe (2) from the AIR pump (1).

  8. Object Number: 256263 Size: SH
  9. Loosen and lower the AIR pump exhaust hose (2) pinch clamp at the AIR Solenoid Valve (1).
  10. Disconnect the AIR pump exhaust pipe (2) from the AIR Solenoid Valve (1).
  11. Remove the AIR pump exhaust pipe.

Installation Procedure

AIR Pump Exhaust Pipe

    Object Number: 256263 Size: SH
  1. Position the AIR pump exhaust pipe (2) between the AIR pump and the AIR Solenoid Valve (1).
  2. Connect the AIR pump exhaust pipe (2) to the AIR Solenoid Valve (1).
  3. Place the AIR pump exhaust hose (2) pinch clamp around the hose connection at the AIR Solenoid Valve (1) inlet port..

  4. Object Number: 256253 Size: SH
  5. Attach the AIR exhaust pipe (2) to the AIR pump (1) outlet port.
  6. Place the AIR exhaust pipe pinch clamp around the AIR pump outlet port and exhaust hose connection.

  8. Install the AIR pump exhaust pipe mounting bolt to the transaxle.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the AIR pump exhaust pipe mounting bolt to 50N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Raise the wheel well/splash shield into position.
  11. Re-install the wheel well/splash shield retaining screws.
