For 1990-2009 cars only

Perform the following front end inspections before making any adjustments affecting the wheel alignment:

  1. Check for the proper inflation pressure of the tires. Refer to Tire Inflation Pressure Specifications in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  2. Inspect for excessive wear on the hub and on the bearing assemblies.
  3. Inspect the following components:
  4. • The ball joints
    • The tie rod ends
  5. Inspect the tires and the wheels for runout.
  6. Check the vehicle trim heights. Refer to Trim Height Specifications . Make any needed corrections to trim the height before you adjust the caster, the camber, or the toe-in.
  7. Inspect for looseness of the steering gear to the crossmember. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  8. Inspect the struts for leaks.
  9. Check the struts for noise.
  10. Inspect for looseness of the control arms or looseness of the stabilizer shaft attachments. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement and Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
  11. Important: The vehicle must be on a level surface.

  12. Inspect the alignment equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
