Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 34013-B Strut Spring Compressor
    • J 3289-20 Holding Fixture Bench Mount
    • J 34013-88 Lower Strut Spring Compressor Adapter
  1. Remove the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 143233  Size: SH
  3. Mount the J 34013-B into the J 3289-20 .
  4. Install the strut assembly into the J 34013-B using the J 34013-88 .
  5. Compress the coil spring.

  6. Object Number: 238038  Size: SH
  7. Remove the dust cap (1).
  8. Remove the strut rod piston nut (2).
  9. Release the compressed spring (10).
  10. Remove the strut assembly from the J 34013-B
  11. Remove the following components from the strut:
  12. 9.1. The strut support (3)
    9.2. The dust seal (4)
    9.3. The spring seat (5)
    9.4. The upper insulator (6)
    9.5. The coil spring (10)
    9.6. The spring bumper (7)
    9.7. The lower insulator (9)

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following components to the strut:
  2. 1.1. The lower insulator (9)
    1.2. The spring bumper (7)
    1.3. The coil spring (10)
    1.4. The upper insulator (6)
    1.5. The spring seat (5)
    1.6. The dust seal (4)
    1.7. The strut support (3)

  3. Mount the strut assembly into the J 34013-B using the J 34013-88 .

  5. Compress the coil spring (10).
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the strut rod piston nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the strut rod piston nut (2) to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  9. Pack the strut support with the wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent.
  10. Install the dust cap (1).
  11. Release the compressed coil spring (10).

  13. Remove the strut from the J 34013-B
  14. Install the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
