  1. Install the J 39775 jumper harness on the transmission side of the 20-way connector, if needed.
  2. Using the J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) and J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance from terminal U to the transmission case.

Is the resistance less than the value shown?

50 ohms

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal D to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance less than the value shown?

50 ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal N to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than the value shown?

50 K ohms

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal A to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance more than the value shown?

50 K ohms

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal B to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance more than the value shown?

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal C to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance more than the value shown?

  1. Start the engine and let the engine idle.
  2. Set the parking brake
  3. Place the gear selector in PARK (P).
  4. Measure the resistance from terminal U to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than the value shown?

  1. Place the gear selector in REVERSE (R).
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal P to the transmission case.

Is the resistance less than the value shown?

  1. Place the gear selector in DRIVE (D4).
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal N to the transmission case.

Is the resistance less than the value shown?

Inspect for high resistance:

    • Inspect the transmission wiring for poor electrical connections at the transmission 20-way connector and at the TFP manual valve position switch connector.
    • Look for possible bent, backed out, deformed, or damaged terminals.
    • Inspect for reduced terminal tension.

Replace the internal wiring harness.

Refer to Wire Harness Disconnect and Wiring Harness Removal in the 4T40-E/4T45-E Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.
