Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 3.1L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 441187  Size: SH
  1. Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L.
  2. Remove the power steering hose nut (1) and retainer (2).

  3. Object Number: 441201  Size: SH
  4. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering return pipe (2).
  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the retainer (6).
  7. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering gear (5).
  8. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 441201  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the power steering gear (5).
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the retainer (6).
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the power steering return pipe (2).

  7. Install the power steering hose retainer (2) and nut (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (45 lb in).

  9. Install the drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L.
  10. Bleed the air from the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Return Hose Replacement Pipe

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 441187  Size: SH
  1. Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L.
  2. Remove the power steering hose nut (1) and retainer (2).

  4. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering return pipe (2).
  5. Remove the power steering return pipe (2) from the power steering pump.
  6. Remove the power steering return pipe (2) from the vehicle.

  2. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the power steering return pipe (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering hose retainer (2) and nut (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (45 lb in).

  7. Install the drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L.
  8. Bleed the air from the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 441238  Size: SH
  1. Remove the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 2.4L.
  2. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering return hose pipe (2).
  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the power steering return hose support nut (1).

  5. Object Number: 441236  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering pressure hose (1) from the power steering gear (3).
  7. Remove the power steering return hose (2) from the power steering gear (3).
  8. Remove the power steering return hose (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering return hose (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Install the power steering pressure hose (1) to the power steering gear (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Install the power steering return hose support nut (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (45 lb in).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the power steering return hose (2) to the power steering pump.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  12. Install the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 2.4L.
  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
