GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The information in this section provides the body service procedures that apply to the front and rear doors.

The service attaching screws may not contain a thread locking compound. Treat the threads of the fasteners with GM P/N 12345493 or the equivalent for the following reasons:

    • In order to prevent loosening of the service screws
    • In order to renew the thread locking characteristics of the production screws

Apply GM P/N 12345493 to the hardware attachment as a liquid. Upon installation and tightening, the adhesive cures to bond the attachment in order to prevent the following conditions:

    • Loosening
    • Backing out

The adhesive bond does not prevent future attachment removal if required.

The mechanical components of the door assembly are lubricated during assembly. If additional lubrication if required, use the following lubricants:

    • Lubricate all the body key lock cylinders with Multi-Purpose Lubricant GM P/N 12345120 or Synthetic SAE 5W30 engine oil.
    • Lubricate the door hinge pins and rollers at normal service intervals using 30 weight engine oil.
    • Lubricate the remainder of the door hardware mechanisms, except the lock assemblies, with GM P/N 1052349 Lubriplate Spray-lube "A" or the equivalent.
    • Lubricate the lock assemblies with GM P/N 1052196 Lubriplate Auto-lube "A" or the equivalent.
