Removal Procedure
Important: Use the J 24319-B
in
order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints.
Tools Required
J 24319-B Universal
Steering Linkage Puller
- Raise the vehicle.
- Suitably support the vehicle with jack stands. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Remove the nut (5) from the outer tie rod ball stud (4).
- Use the J 24319-B
in order to remove the outer tie rod
ball stud from the steering knuckle (5).
- Remove the tie rod end (4) from the shaft (1) by
loosening the jam nut (2).
Do not reuse the nut.
- Inspect the shaft (6)
for bending or damaged threads.
- Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle (1).
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the tie rod
threads with chassis lubricant.
- Install the tie rod end (3) to the shaft (1).
- Install the outer tie rod ball stud (4) to the steering
knuckle (6).
- Install the new prevailing
torque nut (2) to the outer tie rod ball stud (3).
Tighten
Tighten the new prevailing torque nut (2) to 45 N·m
(33 lb ft).
- Adjust the front toe. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Measurement
in Wheel Alignment.
- Tighten the jam nut (5).
Tighten
Tighten the jam nut to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
