Removal Procedure

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

Important: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace a restricted fuel filter.

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 69054  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
  6. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove protective caps from new filter.
  2. Install a new O-ring.

  3. Object Number: 69054  Size: SH
  4. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
  7. Tighten
    Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the fuel filter from turning. Tighten the fuel filter outlet nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  10. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  11. 7.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    7.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    7.3. Turn ON the ignition.
    7.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
