Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2003 🢒 Malibu 🢒 Body and Accessories 🢒 Body Rear End 🢒 Rear Compartment Lid Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Open the rear compartment.
  2. Place a protective covering over the adjacent body panels.
  3. Remove the rear compartment spoiler, if equipped. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .
  4. Remove the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement .
  5. Remove the rear compartment lid lock cylinder. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  6. Remove the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  7. Remove the rear compartment lid overslam bumpers from the rear compartment lid.
  8. Remove the wire harness from the rear compartment lid.
  9. Place the lid harness in the rear compartment.

  10. With an assistant, remove the rear compartment lid bolts (2) from the rear compartment lid.
  11. With an assistant, remove the rear compartment lid (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 277618 Size: SH
  1. With an assistant, position the rear compartment lid (1) to the hinges.

    2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the rear compartment lid bolts (2) to the rear compartment lid.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Install the rear compartment lid wiring harness to the rear compartment lid.
  4. Install the rear compartment spoiler, if equipped. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .
  5. Install the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement .
  6. Install the rear compartment lid lock cylinder. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Install the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  8. Install the rear compartment lid overslam bumpers.
  9. Remove the protective covering from the adjacent body panels.
  10. Adjust the rear compartment lid as necessary.
  11. Close the rear compartment.
