DEFINITION: With the radio operating normally, the volume greatly increases when the rear seat audio (RSA) control power button is pressed on.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the radio.
  2. Adjust the fade and balance controls to mid range.
  3. Press the power button on the RSA control.

Does the volume increase greatly when the RSA control power button is pressed ON?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Press the power button on the RSA control.
  6. Measure the voltage from the RSA enable signal circuit of the radio to ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Go to Step 4

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the RSA enable signal circuit between the RSA control and the radio for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  2. Perform the VIN Relearn procedure with a scan tool. On the scan tool, go to Module Replacement/Setup in Vehicle Control Systems and select Radio.
