Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and wheels.
- Loosen the outer tie rod to inner tie rod jam nut.
- Remove the outer tie rod to steering knuckle prevailing nut. Discard the nut.
Notice: Do not free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or a wedge-type tool.
Damage to the seal or bushing may result.
- Using the
J 24319-B
, separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
Installation Procedure
Important: The threads of the inner tie rod must be clean and free of debris.
- Install the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod.
- Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Important: Hold the ball stud from turning during installation of the prevailing nut.
- Install a new torque prevailing nut to the tie rod ball stud.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Set the front toe. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
in Wheel Alignment.
