The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some 2004 and 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Models with the 2.2L (VIN F - L61 RPO) engine may experience any of the following concerns:

  1. Intermittent crank no start.
  2. Extended crank.
  3. SES Light due to DTC P0335.
  4. SES Light due to DTC P0650.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for any of the above concerns and the last 8 of the VIN is 5F196554 or lower, reprogram the PCM with the latest TIS2000 calibrations. At this time, the latest PCM calibration in TIS2000 is titled - "new calibration to reduce the potential for setting P0335 and P0650". This calibration or any that follow are designed to address the concerns listed above, whether they occur individually or in combination with each other. The PCM should already contain these calibrations if the last 8 of the VIN is greater than 5F196554.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
